Suck (2009)

Rock & Roll Never Dies

This past Saturday I finally bought a copy of Suck, found used at Hastings. I've been wanting to see this one for quite some time, mainly because of my obsession with Alice Cooper. The cast also includes stars such as Iggy Pop, Moby, and Henry Rollins. Definitely one for all you rock fans to check out. This isn't so much a horror flick, as it is a comedy and musical... and even a little romance. I'm not real big on vampires, unless it's Kiefer Sutherland or Tom Cruise, but I enjoyed this one. It sold me with the soundtrack.

This is a story about a struggling rock band called The Winners. They're down on their luck and short on cash, and their manager just quit. After leaving a gig one night, Jennifer takes off with a guy from the show. Turns out he's a vampire, and now so is she. When Jennifer meets back up with the other band members they notice something different about her. And apparently so does everyone else. The Winners suddenly start getting much more attention due to their mesmerizing bassist.

Jen manages to play it cool until they cross the border into Canada. She kills a nerdy store clerk by sticking a straw in his neck and drinking his blood. She gets her friend Hugo to help cover her tracks by getting rid of the body, but it isn't long before the other band members find out what's really going on. At first they are hesitant, but after realizing how their popularity is growing they give in. One by one the group of friends all become vampires, and they seem to become famous over night.

Joey, the leader of the band, finally has everything he's ever wanted. But it's not all it's cracked up to be. "Now you're a big rockstar with a big problem. How cliche." He accidently killed a good friend, and has to return to his band mates feasting on a groupie backstage. At this point, they decide they want out. In hopes of being human again, they head back to the vampire's house to kill him. Too bad they got the wrong guy...
